The
Boston Globe is reporting that sales of luxury wine is picking up. They base this on a report from the California trade publication
Wine and Vines. This report states that wine in the
$20-plus category have
increased 18 percent nationwide from October 2009 to October 2010. November and December are traditionally the busiest months for wine sales, but as the
Globe reports, for the last two years, wine sales were off, mainly because the recession. I would have to agree, based upon what many wine shop owners have told me. The recession has forced many wine lovers to trade down over the last year or so. Volume was generally flat to down and the average purchased bottle cost was down as well.
At
KensWineGuide.com, I can tell you that this November was our busiest traffic month ever with
98,971 visitors. So that is a very positive signal that the interest in wine is improving. December is usually even better. Finally, the news gets even better for Massachusetts wine lovers in 2011. The 6.25% state sales tax on alcohol goes away on January 1st. This should also boost wine sales even more in the New Year. With that, all signs are pointing in the right direction for wine lovers for 2011.
